Early Childhood Recommended Practices: Informing the High-Leverage Practices for K-3

Program Information

In collaboration with the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) and the CEEDAR Center, the Council for Exceptional Children is excited to provide higher education faculty, teachers, administrators, and support personnel who work with students in kindergarten through 3rd grade with a FREE on-demand program designed to introduce you to four areas of high-leverage practice: Collaboration, Assessment, Social/Emotional/Behavioral, and Instruction, and how these areas intersect with DEC Recommended Practices and NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices.

High-Leverage Practices (HLPs) are crucial for all grade levels. The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) Recommended Practices (RPs) are the "High-Leverage Practices (HLPs) for ages 0 to 5". Educators in the K-3 space benefit from understanding how to braid and blend the RPs and other elements of DEC guidance into their practice. It is also important to recognize the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAPs) as the foundation for all work with young children (0-8) and their families. This program works to showcase the importance of blending and braiding the HLPs, RPs, and DAPs for high-quality services.
